Sydney Taxi Fares

How our fares work.

Like every licensed taxi in NSW, our fares run on the meter, at rates regulated under NSW point to point transport rules. The meter charges for distance and for time, which means every fare reflects the actual trip: how far you went, and how long it took.

How It Works

Estimates are a guide, the meter is the fare.

When you book, you'll see an estimate range for your vehicle in the table above. Treat it as a guide: your final fare is whatever the meter reads when you arrive, plus tolls. A clear run costs less and heavy traffic costs more, because the meter charges waiting time when the cab is stopped or crawling. Same trip, different traffic, different fare: that's how a regulated taxi meter works, in every licensed cab in NSW.

  • Distance travelled, from pickup to drop-off
  • Time on the road, including waiting time in traffic
  • Tolls, added at cost
  • Passenger Service Levy, a small fixed NSW government charge
  • Cleaning fee, only if the cab needs it after your trip

TTSS Smartcard

Half your fare, covered.

If you hold a TTSS Smartcard under the NSW Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme, the NSW Government pays half your metered fare, up to $60 a trip. We accept it in every vehicle: have your card ready, and your driver will process it on the spot.

Questions

Common questions about Sydney taxis

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, card, Cabcharge (taxi payment card), and the TTSS Smartcard, which covers half your fare up to $60 a trip.

How do I get an exact quote for my trip?

Simply enter your pickup and drop-off in the booking widget on our homepage for a live estimate, or call 1800 222 724.

Why was my fare different from the estimate?

The estimate is a guide based on a typical run. The meter charges distance plus time, so traffic, roadworks, your exact route and any tolls all move the final figure.

Can I get a receipt?

Of course. Open the app, go to your trip history, and you can view your receipt.
